Although it may seem intuitive, bathing your baby can be unexpectedly complicated if you aren’t prepared. In fact, a recent study showed that about 70% of new parents didn’t receive adequate instructions when it comes to safe bathing, and about 70% of new parents experienced safety incidents while bathing their infants.

Here are some tips to ensure a safe bath time for your little one.

  1. Always supervise: Perhaps the most important tip to remember is to always supervise your baby. Babies can drown in just a few inches of water which means you should never be farther than an arm’s length from them at all times when they are in the bath. This applies to babies and toddlers.
  2. Prevent slips: Wherever you choose to bath your baby (a sink or a bath tub), make sure the surface you choose is stable and non-slip. Use a non-slip bathmat or bath threads in the tub. If you are using a sink, you can lay a towel in the sink to create friction and to make the surface softer.
  3. Check the water temperature: Fill the sink or tub with warm water, but not too hot. The water temperature should be between 37 - 38°C. You can use a thermometer to check the water temperature or test it with your elbow.
  4. Support your infant’s head: A baby's head is heavy and can be easily injured, so it's important to support their head and neck at all times so it doesn’t get submerged in water. Use one hand to hold their head and neck, and the other hand to wash their body.
  5. Never rely on bath aids: if using a bath aid (ie an infant tub, a bath seat), always supervise and never rely on the bath aid to safely secure your baby.
  6. Use a gentle soap: Choose a baby soap or shampoo that is gentle and free from harsh chemicals. Use a small amount to wash your baby's hair and body, and rinse thoroughly with warm water. Avoid getting soap in your baby's eyes.
  7. Check for mouldy toys: Check for mouldy water toys before every bath and if you see any mould, throw out the toy immediately. Try to purchase bath toys that do not have holes in them to prevent mould and bacteria build up.
  8. Be mindful of water levels: Make sure the water level never reaches higher than your baby's chest.
  9. Use both hands to lift baby out: Babies can be super slippery when wet (especially if they love to wiggle!). To prevent any injuries, use both your hands to lift them out. It's best to use The Fuzzy Sprout Hands-free, Wearable towel to easily lift them out of the tub and onto your chest without worrying about juggling your towel or without getting wet! See how it works:

  10. By following these simple tips, you can help make your baby's bath a safe and enjoyable experience. Remember to take your time, be patient, and always keep a close eye on your little one. Happy bathing!

Innovative and awesome!

The Sleep of Mind sleep sacks are a wonderful product...like seriously! I had a fancy doodad cradle/crib that had a built in close up camera that I could see my daughter's chest rise and fall but that was the only benefit, really. We sold that and went to a regular crib with a standing camera. We tried the weighted swaddle with the bean and the fluffy puff marshmallow magic one (you know which I mean) and all would not provide me the assurance she was breathing, especially if she was laying absolutely still. After that, all night I would be zooming in to check if she was breathing or going into her nursery to check myself, which would disturb her sleep (and she'd somehow know Mom was in the room and wanted to be held instead). Enter Sleep of Mind. The material is amazingly soft, quite stretchy, and a comfortable TOG for even the humid summer/fall in VA. The best part is the glitter effect which makes it so easy to see breathing without having to zoom into the camera. I see shimmer and then exit the app, knowing she is ok. I love the peace of mind the Sleep of Mind has given me and it is absolutely worth it!

Game Changer

When our son started sleeping on his belly but we didn’t have a monitor set up yet the mama bear in me was STRESSED. Thankfully we were shown this amazing sleep sack and we breathe again knowing we could so easily see our little man was breathing just fine too. Super soft and sparkles just as promised!

Safe sleep game changer

This sleep sack is genius! I can't tell you the number of times I checked my child's camera and found myself holding my breath trying to focus hard enough to see their chest moving. With the glitter around the sleep sack you can see their breathing instantly.
I lost my second child in February 2024, just a few weeks before having my third. There was no cause, and it was listed as SUDC, Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood. Of course this added an extra level of stress when it came to our daughter and putting her down to sleep. Having something as simple as this product has really helped with my anxiety.

Best Swaddle Ever

As a first-time mom, I have been constantly checking on my baby whether she is breathing during the night. Just recently heard about The sleep of mind sleep sack and it is a game changer for us as I can quietly check on her through the baby monitor. The material is sofa and the design is minimal. The medium sleep sack is for 6-18 months however the length of it is longer than all the other sleeps sacks I own which means I can use it for longer as my baby grows. What an innovative product, wish I found this product earlier!

Easy sleeping

A super easy baby product to use from day 1. It’s nice to have the extra peace of mind as soon as baby’s asleep in the crib. Without needing to peep into her room I can clearly see her breathing pattern in her sleep sack on the monitor. Plus the fabric’s super soft!
