Safety

We're A Brand That Is Founded In Safety

We're taking a stand in the industry by choosing safer materials and dispelling false safety claims.

Setting A Higher Standard

In designing our sleepwear, we carefully chose every component and made safer decisions about what the components are made of, who makes them, and why.

We use GOTS Certified Organic Cotton and hold a OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 certification (24.HCA.38646) because we wanted to set a higher standard. Our garments have been independently tested for harmful substances according to extensive scientific criteria that go beyond global regulations. Because what we expose our children to impacts their health and well-being.

Why GOTS And OEKO-TEX Are The Highest Standards In Textiles

Skin irritation, like eczema, is common in the first few months of life. To reduce flare ups, Dermatologists agree, it’s very important to choose with materials and suppliers that keep harmful substances away from your little one.

All our garments are OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 certified. Sleep of Mind holds a certification as well as all our suppliers.

What is OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100?

It is a label for textiles tested for harmful substances. It sets the benchmark for textile safety, from yarn to finished product. Every item bearing the STANDARD 100 label (every thread, zipper, fastener and fabric), has been tested against a list of over 1,000 harmful substances.

A Standard 100 certified item always adheres to the same standards, limit values, and testing methods, regardless of region in the world. Plus, the limit values for each substance are reviewed at least once a year.  Learn more here.

GOTS is the worldwide leading textile processing standard for organic fibers, including ecological and social criteria, backed up by independent certification of the entire textile supply chain. It requires manufacturers to adhere to standards that are higher than North American federally regulated standards.

GOTS sets a high industry benchmark, ensuring that the human rights of workers in GOTS Certified Entities are respected and upheld, thereby promoting a high bar of excellence within the industry.

Your baby spends an enormous amount of time in their sleepwear. They also love putting it in their mouth, so it needs to be free of harmful chemicals, and each component needs to be high quality in order to reduce safety hazards. That is our commitment as parents, to you. No flashy marketing language or false claims. Just simplicity, safety and honesty.

GOTS does not certify bamboo fabrics

False Claims About Bamboo Fabric

Bamboo textiles cannot claim to be antibacterial because the processing removes the natural antibacterial agent, "bamboo kun," found in raw bamboo. During the production of bamboo viscose, bamboo is chemically broken down, stripping away its natural properties. Regulatory bodies like the FTC warn against unsupported antibacterial claims for bamboo fabrics. Most bamboo textiles are not eco-friendly either and marketing them as such is misleading.

Our Safer YKK Zipper

Did you know the quality and type of zipper are factors in keeping your baby safe?

Comparison of two zippers: the top features a no-hole zipper pull labeled ours (keeps baby teeth safe), while the bottom shows a zipper pull with a hole labeled theirs (tooth may catch).

Our No-Hole, locking zipper pull reduces the risk of dental injury, which has been seen in zippers with a hole in the design. When a baby chews on a zipper pull with a hole, the hole can get caught around the baby's tooth, risking accidental tooth extraction when the baby tries to pull it off. This is why we only use No-Hole zipper pulls.

Zippers can also get stuck or break, which is the last thing any parent wants in the middle of the night. So we selected YKK zippers for all our garments with their supreme standard for quality.

The nearly 90-year-old YKK Fastening Products Group is trusted worldwide for its impeccable production and thorough quality control for slide fasteners, plastic hardware, hook and loop fasteners and more.

Our two-way zipper also makes for easier diaper changes without having to undress your baby. Because of course, keeping your baby safe and happy is important to us too.

Trifecta of Protection: 3 Zipper Guards

Keeping your baby away from the zipper adds to our overall goal for a safer garment.

In addition to a traditional neckline zipper guard, our sleepwear includes a bottom-of-closure zipper guard so that if your baby is able to lift their feet up, it’s harder for them to get ahold of the zipper. Plus, our interior zipper guard goes the full length of the sleepwear to maintain a layer of soft fabric between your baby and the zipper. No pinched skin on our watch!

A Closed Zipper Track

Soft sensitive baby gums can get hurt chewing on open zipper tracks. That's why we've used a closed zipper track, to make it virtually impossible for a baby to chew or bite on the zipper track when teething. See for yourself in the photo (other sleep sack on the left and ours on the right).
